Tasha Tuesday

Hello, Tasha.  What do you have cookin' this morning?

Looks like Tasha is not in the kitchen, but doing some office work.  Well, at least she is standing in an office.  And she is looking like a college gal in her cute denim skirt and graphic tee.

As usual she is topping the style charts with her over sized hoop earrings.  I don't know how she wears those things without feeling like there is a bird on her shoulder.   But then, maybe Tasha is used to birds singing in her ears.  She certainly likes butterflies flapping their wings next to her.

More hoops can be found dangling from her wrist.  And not just one will do.  It is a fashion statement to wear as many bangles as one dares.  Today Tasha is keeping it simple with three silver rings.

And of course, it would be against Tasha's fashion will to dawn anything else but a pair of flip flops mirroring the colors in her attire.  Wish you could see her toes better, but a painted branch adorns her big toe nails only.  How artsy!

Now is it just me or do you think Tasha's locks have lengthened since last week?  You never know with this girl... her hair can be long, short, red, blonde or black all in one week.  Isn't she something?!

Speaking of something.... I met the dearest lady this week at Clarehouse.  Her name is Bernice.  She is eighty three years young. She accompanied her husband to Clarehouse where he will live while Bernice, his only care-taker, recuperates from surgery.  We spent about thirty minutes together while touring the facility.  In that short time I knew I was in the company of an angel.  I have lived long enough to spot them easier now.  As she was leaving to run some errands I told her good by as I would most likely be gone by the time she returned.  Bernice came to the reception desk and leaned close into me and said, "Now what was your name?"  I told her my name and that being with her had blessed my day.  Bernice said, "Oh I'm gonna be doing more than that, young lady, cause when I get home I'm gonna write your name on my list.  Every mornin' I speak every name on my list.  Done it for fifty years and will do it for fifty more or until I return to the dust from which I was formed."

Wow!  I started my shift off with Tasha and ended it with Bernice.  How lucky am I?!!!!

I hope you are blessed by the company of another.  I hope you are fortunate enough to be in a fun and friendly work environment.  And if you are not, send me your name.  I will pass it on to Bernice.

Tasha Tuesday

It's been a long time since we had a visit from Tasha.  Can't wait to see what she's been up to.

Oops, sorry, didn't know she was on the phone.  But doesn't she look cute in those long curls?

Now do you know anyone who scoots around the kitchen in an evening length dress?  Of course you do.  Tasha!  She says she only cooks at Clarehouse... a little scrambled egg.... a little chicken noodle soup... a piece of toast.... crackers and peanut butter. At home she lets someone else move about her kitchen.  After all she's got fingernails to paint.

Washing dishes never looked so good.

On her way back to the nurse's station, Tasha stops to smell the roses.  What a great job ...surrounded by flowers, butterflies and nice people.

Oh, oh gotta go.  It's time to check on the guests.

Loving the zebra watch, Tasha.  Bet I could even read that dial.

There's those beautiful flowers Tasha was smelling.  Go ahead, have a sniff.
Don't they smell fantastic?!

I hope someone cooks you breakfast today.  I hope you have at least one enjoyable conversation on the phone.  I hope your nostrils are filled with delectable aromas and your heart with boundless joys.

Tasha Tuesday

Good morning Miss Tasha.  Looks like your heading nowhere but UP!

What?  Are you the new spokes model for Quick Trip?

Who me,  a spokes model?  No, I'm just a girl who likes to stay cool in 116 degree heat.  I'm the nurse who delivers breakfast, eases your pain and listens to your stories.

But from time to time I like have a little fun and deliver some sas on the side.

Have a great Tuesday!  Enjoy yourself, strut your stuff and do what you do with style.  I hope your day has an element of fun, that you flirt and smile and tell the world you are here.

Tasha Tuesday

Although the weather is stinking hot, Tasha is looking mighty cool in her sleeveless, floral print dress.

And once again she is wearing a butterfly.  I'm beginning to think it may be Tasha's symbol for new life as well as for Clarehouse.

Let's take a closer look at today's bling.... ahh, rhinestone circles.  Just what every girl needs to take her attire to the next level!

Sounds like a relationship instead of clothing, doesn't it?  But hey, many a girl has a special relationship with her wardrobe.

What's this I see?   A Derrière in bloom?

Why,Tasha you're an entire garden of delight today.

And blossoms adorn your feet too.

Tasha loves to coordinate, paying attention to every detail, down to the color and design of her nails.

I also wanted to share a picture of this morning's sunrise.

I don't know.  Is a blazing ball of fire an indication of what the temperature is going to be?

The forecast says 112 and rising each day of the week.  I'm not accustom to such heat and neither are the critters.  They are clamoring for relief, wherever they can find it.  Our neighbor said she saw a squirrel sprawled out full body on the ground in a puddle left by her lawn sprinkler.

I hope you keep cool today.  I hope you are in a place where you can bloom.  I hope you take yourself to the next level, wherever that may be in your journey.

Tasha Tuesday

Hey, hey Tasha.

You're looking mighty fine today.

There you are girl, butterflies about your head, clad in the color combo of black and white... exactly as you orchestrated.

The long blonde, highlighted, twisted, tresses of last week have been replaced by a sleek black cropped cut with just the right amount of wave to be flirty

My, my Miss Tasha.  You don't look like the nurses in my doctor's office.  Are you sure you're not really a model sporting a slice of attitude?

Not only was Tasha hanging out with butterflies so was Mr. M.  He was placing the new chrysalis on the walls of Clarehouse's butterfly habitat.

I had to take a shot of Miss S's tresses too.  Long and luscious, aren't they?

Miss S is the Clinical Director of Clarehouse .  It is she who takes reservations for the guests who visit.

One of the many lovely things Clarehouse does when a guest leaves is to place a lit votive on the ledge outside their door.  Whenever we see a votive glowing under a room number we know that another soul has passed through the veil.  A silent prayer of thanks  hovers about the entire building whenever a soul passes.

Thanks for traveling with me through Clarehouse today.  I hope you get to see some form of life bursting from its cocoon.  I hope you are free to express who you are.  I hope a silent prayer of thanks hovers about you.

Tasha Tuesday

Tasha's baaack!

She looks like she has recuperated from last weeks ails and is sporting a smile as well as a sassy new do.

Last time you saw Tasha her hair was a bit shorter and she was serving up a mean bowl of Rice Krispies... remember?

Today her locks are long, layered and falling about her shoulders.  Isn't she so Tasha?

And, of course, no outfit for Tasha would be complete without the bling.  The many silver bangles are as popular in fashion today as is the print of her dress.  Ooooh, she is so styling!

Today she toned down the toes... painting only her big toenail, leaving all others natural.  But Tasha's got to have a little embellishment.  One large flower pops right in the center of her nail.

Sporting her signature flare, is a bright, shinny butterfly hanging from Tasha's lobe.  It just wouldn't be Tasha without the big earring, now would it?

And I like that where ever she moves about Clarehouse today, she will be taking their symbol of release, renewal and life everlasting.

I hope you are feeling no ail this day.  I hope that you can express who you are where ever you may be.  I hope butterflies flutter above you.  I hope renewal, relief and life everlasting become the home of your soul.

Another Non-Tasha Tuesday followed by a Wayward Wednesday

Sorry that Tasha was not with us yesterday.  She was feeling a bit under the weather so I gave her a reprieve from my ever intruding camera lens.

Not wanting to let the week pass without posting something on fashion though, I thought I would share some pictures of a few ladies who have left their mark on me over the years.  I was introduced to many of them in old videos or through the Classic Movie Channel, or with the creation of specific culturally charged music.  I still consider their contribution to fashion as one of the classiest ever.   I am enamored with fashion from the 30's and 40's, where women dressed in tailored style, and presented a strong image all tied together with a silken bow.   I hope you enjoy this blast from the past as much as I have enjoyed bringing it to you.

Audrey Hepburn and Jackie O are my FAVORITES.  The way they carried themselves, whether clad in cropped pants or an evening gown, was elegance at its best.

Jacqueline Kennedy

I first saw Lauren Bacall in the film Designing Woman.   I loved the plush apartment of fashion designer, Marilla, Bacall's character.  Her clothes were to die for and the old familiar story of rough boy meets refined girl, delivered Hollywood style, captured my romantic, idealistic heart.

I think your whole life shows in your face and you should be proud of that.
Lauren Bacall

I couldn't possibly post stylish women of the past without including Judy Garland.  She, not like the above legends, created a unique fashion through her passionate love of song.  And boy oh boy, could she deliver a note.  When I first saw my mother-in-law's wedding picture, I was shocked to see how closely she resembled Judy Garland.  See if you can pick her out from the shots below.

Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else.

Natalie Wood was on the scene when I was really into love stories and musicals.  She played the leading role in one of my all time favorite films, West Side Story.  I think I still know the words to most every song in that musical.  I know, I know, this may be an ancient era for many of you... but it was a time of enchantment for me.

My mother used to tell me, No matter what they ask you, always say yes. You can learn later.

I discovered soul music when I was thirteen.  My father attended graduate school in Berkley California in the early sixties.... just about the time Motown was becoming a huge name in the music industry.  Diana Ross and the Supremes signed to the Motown label and their songs were playing across California like wild fires ablaze.  Miss Ross was the model of hope for women of color throughout our nation.  I felt Motown's music like no other and I fell in love with the big hair, big eyed, soulful sway of Diana Ross.

I think a responsibility comes with notoriety, but I never think of it as power. It's more like something you hold, like grains of sand. If you keep your hand closed, you can have it and possess it, but if you open your fingers in any way, you can lose it just as quickly.  Diana Ross

I came to know of Grace Kelly not through film, but through the media's rapture with her marriage to Prince Rainier of Monaco.  She was just beginning her road to fame the year I was born so I don't remember her movies.... except for the black and white productions that I watched from time to time on Turner Classics.  But I do remember seeing a picture of her driving a convertible with a long scarf about her head, then wound around her neck, tail flying in the wind.  She had on dark glasses and I thought she was elegantly poised behind the wheel of a what was considered then to be the car of a playboy.  Right then and there she became my icon for woman - strong, independent, playful and exquisitely wrapped.  I am convinced that the original Barbie Doll was fashioned after Grace Kelly herself.

The freedom of the press works in such a way that there is not much freedom from it.

There are countless woman who have inspired my love of fashion and design.... but most importantly to me, my love of grace and elegance.  Each of the above women possessed a presence that demanded attention, not solely because of what they wore, or the curve of their jaw or the flutter of their lash.  For me, it was the way the walked... with confidence, grace and gentle assurance.  I could feel them in the room with me, as if they were as they were the day they made the film I was watching or the music I was playing.  Women of confidence and poise have inspired me to uncover the same within myself. To each of these elegant ladies, I say thanks.  And to all those women now present in my life, I offer gratitude as well.  You are a hopeful power of eternal grace.

May you be inspired by the elegance of another, a tree bowing in the wind or the song of your heart.  May you have a moment to think of those who have left their mark on you and to offer your thanks.  May you be blessed with relationships of grace.
