Every other Wednesday I gather with four women to brag about our families, learn something more about ourselves, offer up our concerns for the world and drink a cup of coffee. Today, I invite you to tour the house of one of my dear friends. She lives in a lovely community, near a large golf course and sports club. She and her dog enjoy their daily walks among the beautiful landscaped yards and lush parks.
When you enter her house the first room you see is her prayer room.
This is where she settles her heart each morning. This is where she meets with those who come to her for spiritual direction. This is where we gather for our Wednesday group.
Her open kitchen lends itself to comfortable conversation between guest and chef. She is a marvelous cook. I have had several bowls of yummy soup in this kitchen..... not all at once, mind you.... I mean I have been in her kitchen on several occasions eating a steamy bowl of homemade soup. Whew!
One of my favorite features of this kitchen is the plate rack and glass front cupboards. She tells me she is ready to update things... new counter, new appliances, new paint. I hope she keeps the plate rack. How 'bout you?
Of course, I'm itching to get my hands on this project. But he-man and I have other jobs to do....
Out the kitchen door and we find ourselves on her cozy deck. She tells me this is her sanctuary. She likes to sit in the early morning and listen to the earth awakening. She has bird feeders sprinkled about and they are always buzzing with patrons. I have seen the prettiest finches and hummingbirds while relaxing in this space.
I had to snap a shot of this one lone azalea blossom before I went inside to continue our tour.
But if you stop for a while, bend down and look closely you can see another blossom hiding behind the branches and a bud about ready to open next to the lone flower.
Her living room is the place where she and her husband and dog engage in commentary over the latest tennis match or basket ball game.
Of course there are more books and family photos - her heart's precious treasure.
Her eight-year-old grand daughter is a published author and grandma openly displays her work for others to enjoy. And believe me, reading them is pure pleasure.
The guest bedroom is a welcoming spot with a large bright window, comfy bedding and cherry blossoms to encourage pleasant dreaming.
The master bedroom is on the other side of the house where all snoring is kept contained. Black, white and tan keep the space gender friendly and soothing to its occupants.
This house has beautiful mill work throughout. I love the high doorways, the crown molding and the added details that gives this home its custom feel.
But what I like most about my friend's home is that she lives there.
It's people who make the trim and paint and hardware a home. It's their spirit - their character - their favorite things telling you who they are and what they cherish that mark any structure with it's true beauty.
From the prayer room you first enter to the candle you see glowing in cupped hands on your way out the door, my friend is wrapping her guests in acceptance and blessing.
I hope your day is nothing but one welcomed entry into another. I hope you can slow down and bend low. I hope someone fills you with something delicious. I hope you know that I hold you close and that we are all being held in the hands of Love.
