Happy Birthday Dad

Today is my father's 82nd birthday.  When I was a little girl I would sit on his lap and ask him a thousand questions. I remembering asking him how old he would grow to be.  He told me that he wanted to see the new millennium but he would take whatever God gave him.  Today he celebrates eleven years beyond his goal and is still receiving many gifts from God.

His eyes do not function as well as they did in the days I sat on his lap... or even as well as they did ten years ago, but that hasn't hampered his vision.  He still believes in a world where peace reigns eternal, where Mother Earth is Honored and where all people are treated with dignity.

He walks, swims and exercises daily.  He enjoys cooking, listening to recorded books, sports and the history channel.  He loves spending time with family, visiting with each one (and there is a bunch of us) as if they were the only ones in the room.
A little time for loving on his grand daughter

When I was about five I begged my mom and dad for a dog.  All of my brothers and sisters at one time or another ask our parents for a dog.  Dad said, "A pet is a lot of work.  Are you willing to give up play time to feed a dog, give it water, brush its fur and take it on walks?  A dog needs lots of exercise."

Dad wasn't much for keeping a dog.  Maybe it was because he had six children to keep and that seemed like enough work.  Funny thing though, dogs like my dad.  He mumbles that they are in the way or that they smell and yet if there is a dog any where near dad it will  find a way to lick him or meander closer to his side.  My sister's Labradoodles can't wait for my dad to visit and give them a good scratching.

Dad takes care of Mom and Mom takes care of Dad and they both take care of us.  Can't get much better than that.

So glad my dad was born 82 years ago.  So happy he has seen and passed the millennium.  So grateful he still listens, moves and cares about our world.

Happy Birthday Daddy!!

I hope your day moves you forward and toward the things you enjoy.  I hope you eat well, sleep sound and listen to some one who wants to be heard.  I hope you are happy you were born.
