Getting Ready

It's amazing how much must be done to prepare for a little, ity, bity person.  Middle One and family have been filling out paperwork, visiting doctors, writing letters and getting their house in order as part of the adoption process.  Middle One and her husband had their first home study last week and are scheduled for a family home study this week.  She wanted to make sure that their house was tidy, safe and welcoming to the social worker doing the home study, but more importantly for the child who will be coming to live there.

She called upon her daddy and my he-man to help with a few projects.  He showed up on her doorstep with tool belt in hand, ready for the list of to-dos.

First - fix the hole in the boys bedroom door.  Seems like the door met a knee or a foot or something during a hearty game of keep out.  He-man took his trusty Mighty Mac tool, cut around the hole, laid in a patch and wah-lah!  Minus a new paint job it was good as new.

Second- replace broken light switch.  "Why replace it?" said He-man, "When a dab of super glue will mend it perfectly.  No super glue in his tool belt though... but in the glove box of his truck there could be some.   After a quick rifling through the glove box and console bin He-man emerged with super glue and two minutes later the light switch was in perfect working order.

Third - install garbage disposal.  Middle One took instruction from her dad as he walked her through the process and is now confident that if they should ever need another garbage disposal she could handle the job.

Fourth - new blinds in Bluebird's room.  China-doll will be bunking with Bluebird so it will be a room of high scrutiny.  Middle One wanted the room to be colorful, fun, inviting and most of all safe. Cords needed to be hidden and outlets covered.  The blinds were a plastic patio roll-up style which she exchanged for cloth roman shades but of course, needed He-man's know-how with the installation.

After prying, measuring, drilling and tightening all contacts, the valance was replaced and new crisp blinds revealed.

Evidence that team work pays off.  Now how about a tour of Bluebird's room that she will soon (hopefully) share with a little china doll?

Middle One's neighbor gave Bluebird this vanity which if I remember right was white. Middle One painted and Bluebird appliqued until it was transformed into this colorful bouquet.

A closer look at the crafted paper glued to the front and side of the vanity

Bluebird wrapped a variety of colored tape around the mirror to create a unique frame

Wouldn't it be nice to wake up to this affirmation every morning?

Accessories, Accessories, Accessories... a girl can never have enough

A brightly painted bed surrounded by colorful orbs and topped with a trio of birds.  How could the social worker not want to stay and play in this room?

 5. I am grateful for daughters and fathers working as one.... for daughters without a father soon becoming one.

I hope you have someone in your life you can call when you need help.  I hope your day reveals unique beauty bound in colorful bands of fun.  I hope you know that you are a gift from God so beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.
